CDFA Teen Vogue Winner Sanglim Lee at Target HQ

When fashion design student Sanglim Lee recently won a $25,000 scholarship, the budding fashion creative got an exciting bonus: A trip to Target’s headquarters for a glimpse at the ins and outs of retail.

Sanglim, a sophomore at Savannah College of Art and Design, was named a Target Fashion Scholar as part of a Target scholarship program created back in 2011 along with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Teen Vogue. It was her menswear line—which melded urban lines and wild patterns inspired by Seoul, Korea and the Serengeti—that caught the judges’ eyes.

“It was like I was having a sweet dream,” Sanglim says of her win. A dream that landed her at Target HQ to wander the famed halls, snap pictures of Target’s beloved mascot, Bullseye, and—most exciting for this up-and-comer in the industry—learn about the importance of testing, research and color matching.

“I wanted to observe the real industry, learn about mass production and the teamwork needed to bring all the processes together in each department.”
