Throughout spring and summer 2014, and culminating with Target’s annual team member giving campaign in June, teams across the country worked together to volunteer their time, pledge donations and rally their teams in support of United Way and its programs. Our partnership with United Way goes back to 1962, the same year we opened our first Target store in Roseville, Minn.
Check out these results that show how the 2014 campaign participation added up to make a big difference for communities.
This year, team members tracked more than 250,000 hours of United Way volunteer service.
They worked together in support of a broad range of community projects, such as collecting and packing donations for food shelves and pantries, cleaning and building shelters, supporting education programs and more. It’s a big milestone that will help us move closer to our goal of tracking another million service hours across all of our projects and programs in 2014.
Team members pledged nearly $11.3 million in total for communities across the U.S.
Those dollars will go to support United Way programs and partners across the country, helping to strengthen individual causes in each community that need help the most.
Our total 2014 campaign raised more than $14.6 million for United Way and nonprofits across the country, factoring in special events and corporate gifts.
In addition to the campaign, Target partners with the United Way all year long in local communities. For example, we just announced that we’re teaming up with the Greater Twin Cities United Way and its partner, Generation Next, on a $1.1 million Bright Spots education initiative with a goal of helping to close the achievement gap in Minneapolis schools.
Target’s continued partnership with United Way is one way that we as a company, and as individuals, demonstrate our commitment to the communities where we do business, and where our guests and team members live and work.
