Tiffany Garcia, aka IHasCupquake, is a YouTube star and self-proclaimed gaming geek. Veronica Valencia is a designer and makeover expert. Together, they’re the ultimate dorm room-designing duo, battling small space obstacles in Target’s Best Year Ever for Nolan, a college gamer who is in desperate need of a room overhaul.
Using his love for video games as their guide, Tiffany and Veronica created an “urban, nerdy chic” dorm room that beats the average campus crash pad by about 10 levels. Check out the transformation here, and read on for their “cheat code” to create a similar look in your space:
Level 1: Clean up! Your gaming station should be clutter-free, comfortable and organized.
Level 2: Your gaming lair should be colorful, and invite others in. Take inspiration from the pixelated patterns and colors in the games you love. Start with your bedding and pillows — two super easy ways to add color to a room.
Level 3: Be social! Make sure there is plenty of room and seating for other gamers. Try storage ottomans that double as stools, and grab a comfy command chair for yourself so you can sit back and dominate your favorite video games.
Level 4: Camouflage unsightly extension cords by turning them into mini art installations. All you need is a bit of spray paint.
Level 5: Use a colorful bed sheet or a curtain as a gaming privacy wall, so you can play all day without driving your roommate crazy.
Level 6: Get a solid pair of headphones—enough said! And it goes without saying you’ll need a great TV and all the top consoles, video games and accessories.
Headphones; TV; Pre-Order Destiny; Xbox One; Jawbone Jambox Mini
Level 7: Don’t forget to study. You’re in college!
