Earlier this week, the 85th annual MLB All-Star Game took over Target Field. And Derek Jeter wasn’t the only one honored during the exhibition game — 30 All-Star Teacher winners, one representing each MLB club, were recognized during a pre-game ceremony for the impact they’ve made on their students and communities.
Each inspiring educator was flown to Minneapolis for several days of fun and festivities, including prime seats for the big game — a small sign of appreciation for all they do. So, what was it like to be serenaded by Broadway superstar Idina Menzel, hang out with Bullseye, ride in the All-Star Red Carpet Parade, or meet Dr. Jill Biden?
Below, All-Star Teacher winner Eric Vander Loop — proudly repping the Milwaukee Brewers — shares his personal pics for an all-access look at the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.
A surprise send off from the ones I love before heading to Minneapolis!
Awesome “Welcome Wall” for the All-Star Teacher reception included each teacher’s photo, their team’s pennant and a Bullseye dog to take home.
Hanging out with some fellow winners at the welcome reception.
Cal Ripken, Jr., surprise guest at the welcome reception, signing the PEOPLE Magazine article I was featured in! It was an honor to meet this MLB legend.
Had the chance to meet Bernie Brewer and learned that his “real” job is actually as a teacher…very cool!
Great to meet Dr. Jill Biden before she rode in the All-Star Teachers trolley before the All-Star Red Carpet Parade.
Leading the National League teachers onto the field — what an honor.
On the field during the pre-game ceremony with Idina singing Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” and the National Anthem.
Group photo with Idina…we didn’t want to let her go!
