They all helped Target reach a major milestone.

Each year, Target team members donate their time to make communities safer, healthier and happier places for everyone. Together, through service, volunteers have honored our nation’s heroes, remodeled school libraries and cleaned up local parks.

Giving to communities is more than writing a check — Target also believes that donating time, talent and resources is equally as important as donating dollars.

In 2013 alone, Target set a company goal to reach 700,000 total volunteer hours. Team members from Minneapolis to Bangalore (and everywhere in between) not only met, but exceeded this goal – racking up more than one million hours of service!

As National Volunteer Week (April 6-12) kicks off, Target thanks team members and celebrity friends who gave time to causes they care about. Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week is all about inspiring folks to find fun and imaginative ways to create positive social change—something Target does all year.

Take a look at a few famous faces that volunteered hand-in-hand with Target team members over the past couple of years to serve their local communities.

Jennifer Hudson helped pack school supply backpacks for Hatch Day in 2013 in Chicago.

Target athlete Shaun White found a cute critter at the safari-themed Target House Carnival at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Designer and philanthropist Lauren Bush Lauren helped package meals at a Feeding America event in advance of her Target collection, FEED USA + Target.

Drew and Jonathan Scott of the HGTV show “Property Brothers” were on hand to volunteer, read to students and help Target unveil a new library at P.S. 179 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Designer Todd Oldham helped design and remodel the art room and library at P.S. 21 Margaret Emery-Elm Park in Staten Island, N.Y.
