New York Yankee Carlos Beltran and Los Angeles Dodger Adrian Gonzalez may play for different teams but that’s not stopping the duo from joining forces for a good cause.

This season, the All-Stars are teaming up with Target and Major League Baseball (MLB) to celebrate teachers, students and schools across the country. Carlos and Adrian know the value mentors and coaches have played in helping them achieve their dreams, which is why we think they’ll be great advocates for Target’s education initiatives.

Throughout the first half of the season, Target and MLB will join forces to recognize teachers across the country through the Target Presents “PEOPLE All-Star Teachers” program and host a series of education-focused events at schools in MLB communities. Carlos and Adrian, along with former MLB players, will help get students and fans excited as well as share stories about teachers that have impacted them and education’s important role in shaping their lives.

“Partnering with Major League Baseball allows Target to extend the reach of our education efforts and is just one example of how we bring to life our goal of giving $1 billion to education by the end of 2015,” said Laysha Ward, president, Community Relations, Target. “We’re so excited that Carlos and Adrian will be wearing red this season.”

Carlos and Adrian both have a personal passion for education and are committed to enhancing students’ lives through their foundations. In 2009, Carlos established the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, a place where Puerto Rican students can develop their athletic skills while also focusing on their education. Adrian’s The Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez Foundation also focuses on athletics, education and health in order to help children learn and grow.

Even though opening day is still a few weeks away, you can celebrate a teacher from your community starting today by visiting AllStarTeachers.com to submit a nomination through May 6. The 30 winning “All-Star” teachers — one representing each MLB club — will be revealed on July 9, with winners being recognized on field before the All-Star Game on July 15.
