While Target has techie-types working to cook up the next big thing in retail (like Cartwheel), our 340,000 store team members play a crucial role in making sure new technology takes off with guests!
As more people shop with their smart phones, it’s important that our stores teams are up to speed with Target’s latest digital offerings to help enhance the in-store experience. That’s why all Target stores across the country recently held a six-week training program dubbed “Get Appy” as part of their pre-holiday preparations. The initiative also speaks to Target’s move to put “multichannel” – the integration of digital technologies and stores – at the forefront.
The trainings were designed to better familiarize team members with Target’s mobile app and Target’s new digital savings app Cartwheel. Store team leaders led the informal sessions on iPads.
The teams learned about what the apps can do, and were encouraged to spread the word and help guests save with Cartwheel or use the Target mobile app to create a shopping list or check product availability online or at a nearby store.
“Here’s a typical case – a guest walks into Target and is a little intimidated or unaware of the benefits of using an app while shopping,” says Joe Contrucci, a Target Vice President who heads the Stores Digital Integration team. “Then a team member tells the guest about Cartwheel and helps them download the app. In just a few quick clicks, the guest saves $20 when they check out. Then, that same guest walks out of the store and tells everyone they know all about Cartwheel.”
Joe says his team also designed “Get Appy” to get store team members more excited about Target’s mobile offerings. Based on the photos below, to Joe and team we say: You got this!
