The age-old saying, “Never trust a skinny cook,” implies that a great chef should always indulge in their culinary creations. While we don’t take every quotable theory literally, we thought it’d be fun to apply the same idea to our designers.
We wanted to know how Target’s Product Design and Development Team would actually use the products they imagine, sketch and create in their own homes.
With an iPhone and Instagram at the ready, we visited five design team members to see how they incorporate some of the new Threshold home décor pieces in their own homes.
What we found was a sophisticated style infused with natural elements like animal and mineral influences. The natural trend blends unique materials like faux snakeskin, faux pony hair textiles, real agate and blown glass. Acrylic and gold touches add an elevated touch throughout the entire collection, bringing each room to life.
Take a look below to see how Carla, William, Jasmine, Kara and Paul style Threshold.
William: Nature and glamour come together to create a livable and elevated decorating experience. Cut crystal, geodes and faux florals all blend seamlessly in a backdrop of black, white and gray blues as well as cognac with hints of metallic. I call it nature idealized and beautified—perfect to set the mood for an evening cocktail.
Carla: I used the snakeskin lamp and matching shade on my night stand. The color in the snakeskin with the gold metal accents matched our room perfectly, adding a sophisticated touch to the space! We also picked the accent rug for the floor—I like that it coordinates with the lamps without looking too matchy-matchy. Plus, I love the pop of the teal color!
Jasmine: I love the moody look I created using pieces from this trend. I used the ottoman, tray and coasters for a place to set up drinks for guests. The swirled glass votive holder really adds a glimmer effect. The tray adds some sparkle and is really eye-catching in my living room. The watercolor pillow picks up all of the teal accents and really makes a statement. The gold snake box is sure to be a conversation piece.
Kara: I used the swirled glass vases to create a sweet centerpiece for my table. I love how the shades of purple play with the colors of the floral art on the wall. I dressed them up for summer but think that they could make a great fall statement as well!
Paul: The corner of my living room right under the stairs has always been “under-utilized.” By bringing in a comfortable chair and contemporary pieces, such as a snakeskin table, feather wall art and figurals my wife and I were able to create a new focal point. Our new reading nook is the perfect spot to sip our morning coffee and read the newspaper or pick up a book while our son takes a nap. We now jockey with who gets to sit there!
