In March, Target and Fast Company announced a contest that asked for the biggest and brightest ideas from top developers. The contest, called “Co.Labs & Target Retail Accelerator,” offered a $75,000 prize to the person who develops the best new mobile experience for Target.

After reviewing over 75 innovative entries and days of deliberation, a panel of Target executives has chosen the app, Divvy by Team Pilot, as the grand prize winner. Divvy revolutionizes social shopping by solving the challenges of real-life group shopping, like splitting bills and getting individual receipts.

Divvy’s sleek design, clever features and ability to solve practical group-shopping obstacles with innovative technology helped it stand out from the numerous other entries, including the seven finalists, all of which received $10,000 to build their prototype based on initial wireframes. Target is now working on bringing the winning concept to life and like other digital innovations underway, including Cartwheel and projects at our San Francisco Technology Innovation Center; Divvy is aimed at enhancing the shopping experience for our guests.

Opportunities at Target for developers and techies don’t end with the Retail Accelerator contest. Target is one of the sponsors of the GR8CONF happening in late July in Minneapolis. GR8CONF will give conference attendees the ability to innovate and collaborate on open-source Java platform technologies through presentations, speakers and a Hackathon hosted by Target.
