Lazy days, carefree afternoons and saturated colors that seem like they’ve been mellowing in the sunshine for years—that’s the feeling that permeates this spring’s home collection, thanks to a signature watercolor effect we call sunwashing.
It all started with a research trip to Hawaii, where members of Target’s Product Design and Development (PD&D) team scoured flea markets, beaches and even native flora and fauna for inspiration.
The team created original works of art and then infused those designs into dinnerware, textiles, art and decorative accessories. Patterns became pillows, towels and napkins. Colors were combined, faded or intensified, then transformed into tableware.
“The painters really brought the sunwashed story to life,” says Target designer Bonnie Vig. “The whole collection is about a blending of warm and bright colors.”
