In March, Target sent more than 50 team members to the SXSW Interactive Festival  in Austin, Texas to join some of the digital industry’s brightest minds to share and learn about emerging technologies.  Team members explored topics from game design to space innovation, bringing big ideas back to our Minneapolis headquarters to help improve our award-winning guest and mobile shopping experiences.

The festival, an annual five-day event that celebrates technological innovation, gave team members the opportunity to attend presentations, programs and networking events, allowing Target to connect with industry partners, whether it be another large company or new start-up.

“I learned how other large companies are approaching innovation and how Target can be a better partner to them. Start-ups are also curious to learn how we can find ways to work together,” says Jamil Ghani, Vice President, Enterprise Strategy. “Many of the other topics I explored were just personally interesting or inspiring.”

Target social experience manager Amber Reimer, like Jamil, attended programs that expanded beyond her job title and responsibilities. “[Entrepreneur] Yuri Milner's interview with ‘Vanity Fair’ was fascinating.  It covered everything from quantum mechanics to space travel to angel investing,” says Reimer.

Although Reimer may not be using the quantum teachings in her everyday job, her experience at SXSW is what helps Target team members grow and learn, giving Target our edge in design and innovation.
These team members’ careers, like many others at Target, offer the opportunity to use advanced technology on the job, grow within a talented team and make the shopping experience even better for guests. Want to learn more? Explore career opportunities at Target.
