In the Kitchen: Seattle-Inspired Coffee Recipes

When you think of coffee, you can’t help but think of its hometown: Seattle. They’re as much of a match as peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, or Real Housewives and drama.

As one of the most caffeinated cities in America (based on the number coffee shops, average consumption and money spent on coffee), Seattle and its locals take their coffee culture seriously. From indie hole-in-the-wall shops to the original Starbucks at Pike’s Place Market, you can’t walk more than two blocks without being (pleasantly) inundated by the newest flavored brews or artisanal roasting techniques.

While we can’t make it to the coffee capital for a mind-blowing cup of Joe each morning, we can recreate Seattle-inspired concoctions in our own kitchens. Try these two sweet summer recipes below—caramel iced latte and vanilla latte.

When and where: 7/11 and 7/20, 7-11 a.m., 2nd Avenue & Pike parking lot across the street from the new store; 7/13 and 7/19, 7-11 a.m., Westlake Plaza; 7/30, 7/31 & 8/1, 7-11 a.m., Convention Place Metro Bus Stop.

Caramel Iced Latte
Makes one delicious cup (12 fl. oz.)

What You’ll Need:
1.5 fl. oz. Caramel Sauce
6 fl. oz. Chilled Milk
1 shot espresso
Ice
Whipped Cream

What You’ll Do:
1. Add caramel sauce to cup. Add one shot of espresso, and stir until mixed.
2. Add chilled milk to cup and stir.
3. Add ice, and top with whipped cream (we’ll leave how much up to you!).
4. Drizzle with caramel sauce as a topper. Drink up.

Vanilla Latte
Makes one delicious cup (8 fl. oz.)

What You’ll Need:
0.5 fl. oz. vanilla syrup
1 shot espresso
6 oz. steamed milk
Foamed milk

What You’ll Do:
1. Add vanilla sauce to cup. Add one shot of espresso, and stir until mixed.
2. Add steamed milk, then top with foamed milk. Enjoy!
