The Curiosity Shoppe

Tucked away in San Francisco’s Mission District, curiosity runs wild in a small, unassuming shop on Valencia Street. A hand-painted sign reads ‘The Curiosity Shoppe,’ begging you to enter through the bright red door.

Opened in 2007 by couple-turned-cofounders Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom, the shop is an eclectic mix of crafts, kits, books, unusual gift ideas, home décor and quirky objets d’art. Prior to opening The Curiosity Shoppe in the Bay Area, the duo worked in New York City (Lauren worked in Todd Oldham’s design studio and Derek was a magazine editor at publications like Esquire and Interview) before realizing they wanted to take their creativity to California.

Now, for the second installment of The Shops at Target, Lauren and Derek will curate a 60-plus-piece collection of entertaining accessories, stationery, kitchenware, games, crafts and curiosities. Ranging in price from $3 (for a melamine salad plate) to $25 (for a ceramic cake stand), the collection hits stores September 9.
