100,000 Jobs Mission

It is no surprise that after their homecoming, veterans can often find the transition to civilian life difficult—emotionally, physically and financially. Finding employment after active duty often adds an additional layer of stress.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the veteran unemployment rate is improving but there is still more to be done. Unemployment among veterans fell from 9.9 percent to 7.5 percent over the last year, which is only slightly better than the overall U.S. unemployment rate.

To help veterans lead successful lives following their service and reduce unemployment, top U.S. companies under the lead of JPMorgan Chase launched the 100,000 Jobs Mission in March 2011. The goal of the mission is to collectively hire 100,000 service members by 2020. As of Dec. 2011, more than 6,600 veterans had been hired as a result of the mission, which has grown to include 37 companies.

Today, Target proudly announces that it is the latest member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission.

“Target counts many veterans and military reservists among our team members and we are proud to join in this important mission to hire 100,000 veterans by 2020,” said Tim Curoe, vice president of Talent Acquisition and HR Operations at Target. “Target is committed to attracting and retaining team members with diverse backgrounds and values the perspectives that team members with different experiences bring to Target.”

“We are thrilled that Target has joined the mission and shares the coalition’s commitment to hire 100,000 veterans by 2020,” said Maureen Casey, head of Military and Veteran Affairs for JPMorgan Chase, a founding member of the 100,000 Job Mission Coalition.

Target’s support of the military is demonstrated through many unique programs and partnerships. Target is a Minnesota Yellow Ribbon company and supports programs like The Mission Continues, United Through Reading and Operation Gratitude.
