Cinderella is one of our favorite storybooks. And although we may not be a magical fairy godmother, we have helped renovate elementary school libraries nationwide into inspiring places for children to read, learn and grow.
Target’s Library School Makeover program plans to redesign 42 libraries this year, and we’re well on our way. Last week, with help from The Heart of America Foundation, we renovated five libraries in Washington, D.C., including the library at Amidon-Bowen Elementary.
We spruced up the shelves with 2,000 brand-new books, and gave each student several books to take home. Freshly painted lime-green walls and a bubblegum artwork display instantly brightened up the library, creating a happy and encouraging space for students. Now, kids can curl up in comfy reading nooks or study at the brand new desks.

An early love of reading creates lifelong learners, which is why Target is committed to helping more U.S. children read proficiently by the end of third grade. All this talk of reading reminds us of our favorite childhood books. Do you remember these classic tales?
