EMILY: Here are some tricks to making that look work.

A series of quick shots reveal a close-up of the side of the oatmeal headboard, a shot of the bed from the left side, and a panning shot of the pillows.

EMILY: Keep the furniture neutral and add the color in the bedding.

Emily throws a blue pillow in the air and catches it.

EMILY: These navy linen pillows aren't too bright, but they contrast so well with the warmer tones of the headboard.

Standing on the left side of the bed, Emily throws the navy pillow in front of a blue-and-white pillow. She runs her hand down the front of the pillow to smooth it out.

The entire bed is visible again.

Emily rubs her hand over a small beige pillow with a textured diamond design on it.

EMILY: Make sure to mix both large and small-scale patterns together so they don't compete.

Beige, light blue, navy, and blue-and-white pillows of varying sizes are visible sitting on the bed.

A close-up shot reveals the beige, textured pillow.

Emily folds over the white sheet with stitched blue diamonds.

EMILY: You can layer a poppy sheet with a more neutral classic duvet, and then top it off with three playful, decorative pillows.

Emily flattens out the striped duvet.

Emily holds a brown pillow with hanging decorations and small sparkles. She runs her hands across the hanging decorations.

Emily places the brown pillow on the bed.

EMILY: You can still have a stylish bed despite not having any poppy colors.

The camera pans from the bottom up to show the neatly made-up bed. Emily continues speaking to the camera.
EMILY: Get your little ones excited to go to bed.
The white daybed with brightly colored pillows is visible.

EMILY: For a kid's room, I like using a daybed.

The camera pans from right to left across the bedroom. To the right of the bed is a white bookcase filled with books and toys.
